Help Us Serve Fox Road Elementary

I’m a member of The Summit Church in Raleigh, NC and attend the North Raleigh Campus. One of the ways we glorify God at the Summit is to love and serve our community, and that includes our public schools.

An Opportunity to Serve

So we have an opportunity from today until September 30 to vote for Fox Road Elementary School on Pepsi’s Refresh Project. Here is what Fox Road Elementary has to say about their need:

Fox Road Elementary School has educated students for over 20 years. During these two decades, many of the books in our bookroom have become outdated, gotten lost, or become damaged. As we endeavor to “Rebuild Our Bookroom”, we hope to update our bookroom so it reflects the interests and diversity of our school population. We want to purchase a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction books for students to use for guided reading instruction. We also need bookcases and book bins to store the books in the bookroom. The books in our bookroom are used by teachers in all grades (K-5) to provide our 850 students with texts they need learn to think both critically and creatively. As we rebuild our bookroom, we also build successful and confident readers.

Sweet! How do I help?

Wilmington Design Company

I recently started a new job at a local design company here in Wilmington. I started in late June, and worked full-time for the rest of the summer. The company is called Wilmington Design Company. From what I can tell, they are likely the most innovative and creative of the web and graphic design companies in the Wilmington, NC area. While I wouldn’t necessarily count myself in as being one of the most creative individuals, I’ve felt very welcome as a part of the team, and enjoy the work I’m able to do.

I’m a web programmer, and occasionally have the opportunity to contribute to the design of some of the web sites we build. I work under Gregg Moore, Wilmington Design Company’s Senior Web Designer and Developer. Gregg also goes to my church and is a great help to me as a young web developer. I’m thankful for his patience with me.

Working for a web design company is awesome. I had hoped that after going to community college for three years and getting an AAS in Web Development that I’d be ready to move to Wilmington and get a decent job building web sites. Coming into the summer, my plans were to work for myself and drum up enough work to pay the bills and possibly buy my first Mac by the end of the summer. After spending most of the month of June with no projects to do, I got up with Gregg, who got me in touch with Bill to discuss joining the team as a web programmer.

I always figured that companies like Wilmington Design Company just got business from anyone, anywhere. While Wilmington Design will do projects from any industry, they’ve found a niche in the Real Estate industry. We do a lot of web sites for builders and real estate agents, often employing Fetch IDX, our custom MLS Search Engine product. Wilmington Design Company is in the process of further developing Fetch IDX to eventually offer it to real estate web programmers nationwide.
